Battling The Spirit Of Suicide

Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or status.

In the Bible, there are several individuals who grappled with such thoughts, demonstrating that even people of faith are not immune to these struggles. Some of them include:

1. Elijah
2. Jonah
3. Judas
4. Saul

It’s essential to remember that you are not alone in facing these challenges.

It’s important to recognize that these thoughts can often be seen as a spiritual attack, originating from a dark force aiming to infiltrate your mind with feelings of depression, anxiety, fear, and weariness.

Suicide can stem from feelings of unworthiness, overwhelming circumstances, and extreme exhaustion, among other factors.

During such difficult times, it’s crucial to hold onto God’s promises as a source of strength and hope:

1. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

This verse reminds us that God can turn every adversity into a greater purpose, using what was meant for harm for our good.

2. “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9)

When we feel weary, we should persevere in doing good and seeking God, for in the right time, things will turn around in our favor.

Dedicate your heart, mind, and soul to worshiping Him.

3. “He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.” (Isaiah 40:29)

This passage encourages us to trust in the Lord’s strength and promises that those who wait on Him will renew their strength, soar like eagles, run without weariness, and walk without fainting.

To combat the spirit of suicide, here are five key steps to consider:

1. Seek support: Don’t go through this alone.

Share your struggles with someone trustworthy and seek godly counsel for their prayers and guidance. “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)

2. Recognize God’s love: Remember how much God loves you and that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, for your salvation.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

3. Embrace God’s plan: Understand that God has a purpose, a plan, and a calling for your life.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

4. Acknowledge the spiritual battle: Realize that you are engaged in a spiritual battle and pray against any spirit of suicide or depression.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11)

5. Continue to praise the Lord: In times of mourning and heaviness, maintain your praise and worship, as God can replace your sorrow with joy and a sense of purpose.

“God consoles those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3)

In the name of Jesus, amen.
