How To Deal With Haters As A Christian

How we respond to others reveal’s our spiritual maturity.

It’s not easy to respond from the flesh.

We are called to crucify the flesh! (Galatians 2:20)

How we respond to disagreement is a litmus test of how we’ve grown in Christ.

23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. (2 Timothy 2:23-26)

Be gentle, teach, patience IN humility. This is the formula on how to respond as a believer.

If we can respond in a way that teaches people a lesson of what it truly means to be a light & salt… we never know what seeds get planted.

1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe. 2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! 3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, (Philippians 3:1-3)

We must discern these evil workers.

There are people that are secretly assigned to destroy you because its YOU!

Sometimes we just take a step back and have grace for them. We must understand it’s not always a direct attack on us… but a reflection of the person who is attacking us.

1 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. 3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. (Titus 3:1-3)

#1 Stillness

17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:17-21)

Be still if you don’t know what to say.

Learn to overcome evil with good.

The enemy wants you to respond with the flesh.

The flesh fighting against the flesh… you will never win.

You must fight in the spirit to overcome the battle!

#2 Silence

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

7 A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; (Ecclesiastes 3:7)

We read silence before speaking.

Sometimes we want to speak and we feel like we have to respond.

You don’t have to have a response for every persons question..

8 Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid, 9 and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. 10 Then Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?” 11 Jesus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” (John 19:8-11)

We don’t always have to be the final say.

Sometimes it’s just being silent.

There is something powerful about being silent as a response.

#3 Surrender

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

(2 Corinthians 10:5-6)

Learn to know that God’s ways are always better.

His plans.

His way of how we should respond is ALWAYS greater.

It doesn’t always make sense but it does make you a better follower of Christ to be wise with how you respond to people.
