How To Activate The Anointing

Jesus was anointed.

Christ means ‘anointed one’

& Jesus needed to be anointed with the assignment He had on earth.

38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38)

In the Old Testament they were anointed to be set apart.

It means to smear or to rub.

  • David was anointed as king (1 Samuel 16:13)
  • Jehu was anointed as king (1 Kings 19:16)
  • Elisha was anointed as a prophet (1 Kings 19:16)
  • Aaron was anointed as a priest (Exodus 28:41)
  • Items like altars and utensils were anointed to make them holy (Exodus 29:36)

How to activate the anointing?

#1 You Can’t Copy Anointing
In the New Testament, Jesus was anointed too, but not with physical oil. Instead, He was anointed with the Holy Spirit and power.

“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”(Acts 10:38)

This anointing isn’t just for Jesus; we all have it. It’s like having a guide inside us—the Holy Spirit. He teaches, leads, and guides us in the right direction.

“But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.” (1 John 2:27)

So, remember, you have this incredible guide within you!

#2 Anointing Announces You
When you’re anointed, there’s no need to boast about it. It shows through your actions and the “fruit” you bear. Just like Jesus said in Luke 4:18, the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him because He was anointed to bring good news to the poor and heal the brokenhearted. Your actions will speak louder than words.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind, (Luke 4:18)

#3 Oil Comes at a Price
Anointing might be free, but there’s a catch. You need to pay the price for it, and that price is obedience to God (Luke 14:28). Obedience is like the currency you use to obtain the precious oil of anointing. It’s more valuable than any sacrifice you can make.

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—” (Luke 14:28).

#4 Keep Your Oil Fresh
Imagine your anointing as a lamp, and prayer as the oil that keeps it burning bright. You can’t rely on past prayers; you need a fresh touch from God every day. Praying regularly is like getting an oil change for your spiritual life. Just like the wise virgins who carried extra oil for their lamps in Matthew 25:4, you should always have a reserve of prayer to stay spiritually charged.

“but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.” (Matthew 25:4)

#5 Steward Your Oil Wisely
Lastly, be a good steward of your anointing. Don’t just give it away to anyone who asks for it. In Matthew 25:8-9, the wise virgins didn’t share their oil because they knew they needed it for themselves. Being a good steward means using your anointing wisely and sharing it with those who truly seek it and value it.

“And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’” (Matthew 25:8-9)

So there you have it, family! Anointing is like a superpower we all possess, but it’s up to us to activate it, nurture it, and use it for good. Remember these lessons as you navigate your journey of faith, and you’ll be well on your way to unlocking the power of anointing in your life.
